The Method

Agent readiness starts with useful public content and accurate responses. The plugin can help verify those surfaces; AI systems still decide what they retrieve and cite.

Content: return useful facts

Serve accurate schema and supported Markdown formats. llms.txt is an optional index; it is not a proven citation lever.

Diagnosis: compare the response

A cache, static file, SEO provider or server rule can change what an agent receives. Inspect the public endpoint rather than relying on saved settings.

Actions: expose a clear contract

Allow authenticated abilities deliberately. Store APIs have their own scopes and hand off payment for buyer review; context JSON is discovery, not an MCP server.

It means checking whether your site returns readable content, structured facts and clearly permitted tools. The plugin gives you local diagnostics and formats agents can request. Actual retrieval and citations are external decisions.
No plugin can guarantee citations or rankings. citelayer® helps with the technical surfaces you control and reports observed local activity. llms.txt is optional and does not count toward the dashboard readiness score.
Generated output and dashboard data are cached, but performance depends on the site. A full-page cache or CDN can answer before WordPress logs a bot request. Verify response formats and collection gaps before changing cache rules.
The free plugin recognizes Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO, The SEO Framework and Slim SEO. Feature-specific ownership and enhancement/replacement modes matter. Inspect the output on your actual setup.
You can inspect matching crawler requests, recognized human AI referrals, pages without logged bot visits and local readiness checks. These are distinct signals; the plugin does not probe every AI answer or provide a citation market-share dashboard.
